Small Space: Zoe Brand

Zoe Brand is a Canberra-based artist who uses text to explore the performative nature of jewellery as a device for communication. Using readymade and archetypal jewellery forms, Brand explores language that can both describe her objects and the people wearing them, while initiating conceptual dialogue between the object and its audience.

Using sheets of pressed aluminium, NO REASONABLE OFFER REFUSED is an exhibition that draws from the language of commercial or retail situations. Hung in an ‘idea-cloud’ arrangement, these pendants act as signposts, highlighting and narrating the ironic ways in which we negotiate commerce, and the ethereal values exchanged within these environments.

Born in Brisbane, Australia, Zoe Brand completed an Advanced Diploma in Jewellery and Object Design at the Design Centre, Sydney Institute, 2008. In 2015 she completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (First Class Honours), majoring in Gold and Silversmithing from the Australian National University. Brand has exhibited in several group and solo exhibitions across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Germany, France and Estonia, and her works are held in a number of private collections. Brand was also recently appointed Director of the Personal Space Project, a gallery located in her bedroom. Zoe Brand is represented by Masterworks Gallery, Auckland.
