Open Studio Squiggla: Dots and lines, symbols and signs

Come along to our free Squiggla family drop-in event, which is open to all ages. In this workshop, held at the start of the Colin McCahon centenary year, we’ll use the Squiggla programme to play and make with dots and lines, symbols and signs as a means of creative play, while thinking about the local landscape that once inspired Colin McCahon.

Many abstract artists, including McCahon, Gretchen Albrecht, Judy Millar and many more, have found inspiration in the Titirangi and West Coast landscapes. Sweeping coastlines, dense forests, wild seas, and skyscapes of shifting colours and clouds continue to be a rich source for creative energy and ideas.

Squiggla is a hands-on programme that helps develop creative thinking skills through the power of mark-making. A non-judgmental free-form drawing activity for people of all ages, Squiggla invites you to exercise your creative mind. You can let your imagination and intuition flow freely when you play with dots and lines on a page. Squiggla also has an APP which is free to download from the website: squiggla.org. It provides digital galleries and inspirational videos. If you have one, bring along your own device so the Squiggla team can help get you started but first, at this drop-in event, you can dive right in to a hands-on experience with a variety of mark-making tools.
