Delicia Sampero: Conference of the Birds

A new species of bird has been discovered inhabiting Lopdell House, perching on the roof of the newly redeveloped building. Roughly the same size as a human their colouration ranges from yellow to orange and responds to light, reflecting the passing glow of headlights.

Part of a multi-site installation by artist Delicia Sampero, over the summer the flock will visually connect the Lopdell House redevelopment to the temporary Lopdell House Gallery off-site premises in New Lynn. Sampero asks the viewer to consider and rethink assumptions about the everyday and the ordinary, drawing attention to places that we perhaps overlook.

The Temporary signs remind us that all in life is fleeting. They drew attention to the landscape at Waiheke’s Headland Sculpture on the Gulf a year ago, and now speak to the transitional construction site, soon to open in a few more months as Titirangi’s arts hub.

This is a preview of Sampero’s road sign installation which travels to the New Zealand Arts Festival in Wellington in 2016 and will include various other North Island venues.
