Tour of Ava Seymour: Domestic Wild

Join exhibiting artist Ava Seymour and Te Uru Curator James Gatt. for an intimate tour for Seymour’s exhibition Domestic Wild.

This exhibtion is the first to survey Seymour’s ongoing series of cat-centric composites. Drawing from her vast holdings of books and ephemera, Seymour adapts print material into collages, assemblages and videos. The focus on a single or primary subject is characteristic of her work—Seymour has previously focused on flowers, high heels, dogs, and smokers. This restraint functions to highlight differences within an otherwise general category as well as the formal properties of Seymour’s light-handed and enchanting compositions.

Ava Seymour was born in 1967 in Papaioea / Palmerston North and currently lives and works in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Ava Seymour: Domestic Wild is presented in association with Auckland Arts Festival 2024
