Greta Anderson: There Is Nowhere to Go, There Is Nothing to Do

Curated by New Public

There Is Nowhere to Go, There Is Nothing to Do brings together a focused selection of photographs by Tāmaki Makaurau based artist Greta Anderson, produced between 1997 and 2022. The exhibition premise anticipated the launch of a new monographic publication of the same title, designed by exhibition curator New Public and published by Rim Books.

For over 20 years, Anderson has been capturing dramatic scenes in films and photographs that quietly reference intensely personal narratives. There Is Nowhere to Go, There Is Nothing to Do presents Anderson’s work through a range of formats including an eponymous publication, a documentary video, and a photo installation, speaking more broadly to the varied ways photographic material is shared and engaged.

New Public is a book design and publishing project based in Tāmaki Makaurau. It collaborates with artists and cultural institutions to exhibit research devoted to the discussion of contemporary visual and material culture. There is Nowhere to Go, There is Nothing to Do with Greta Anderson prioritises an external lens on 25 years of the artist’s photography practice.

The publication There Is Nowhere to Go, There Is Nothing to Do will be launched Saturday 18 November 2-4pm in the gallery.
