Join artist Angela Kilford for a creative workshop and conversation about myrtle rust.
Myrtle rust poses a significant threat to native trees including pōhutukawa and mānuka. The fungal disease is notoriously difficult to control and will be extremely difficult to eradicate in Aotearoa.
Angela Kilford seeks to raise the awareness of effects of myrtle rust by exploring the dichotomy between beauty and disease. Using the eco-print technique of steaming leaves in bundles of cloth, she creates direct prints of leaves from pōhutukawa and mānuka.
In this free workshop, the community are invited to embroider myrtle rust and larvae onto these eco-prints while discussing both the disease and its wider ecosystem.
